Cheese Story Devlog #1


Hi everyone! This is the first Cheese Story devlog and hopefully one of many. This is going to be a very short preview of some battle mechanics and a new song from the Cheese Story OST.


Let's start off with the basic  battle menu.


Here's an example fight with a Slime enemy and a Goblin enemy in a grasslands environment. We have fight and escape options here (self-explanatory) as well as the list of current party members. I'll get into  what all these numbers and abbreviations mean in just a moment.


This is the menu that appears after you click the Fight option. You have the option to do a standard attack, a special attack, guard, or use an item. The standard attack is very basic, it just deals a small amount of physical damage. Special attacks are a little more interesting.


This is Ninty's special attack menu. In this screenshot, our heroes are only level 3, so there is only one known special attack so far,  "Heavy Shot". This move deals around twice the damage as a standard attack. You may notice a number 25 next to the move. It is because this move costs "TP" (temporary term). TP is a meter that fills as you progress through the battle, when you are hit or deal damage to enemies.


Not all special moves are physical, however. Party members Chac and Seth are mages, meaning they are able to use magic spells from the special menu. These spells will require MP rather than TP.

Guard is a move that requires no MP, TP, or HP to use, and simply reduces damage taken by enemies for 1 turn.

Item is a menu where you are able to select items, such as potions or revives.

After you choose an action for a character, you will see the next character highlighted and you will be able to choose an action  for them.

For those wondering why Seth hasn't been in any screenshots yet, he isn't quite finished yet but hopefully will be by the next devlog.
